Greetings -

Secret:  Consistently winning teams are lead by winning leaders.  Take a moment to catch some insights on winning from Coach Chuck Daley by going to the ToPS Blog at www.TotalPatientService.BlogSpot.com.  Coach Daley won back-to-back NBA titles and the went on to coach the 1992 USA Olympic Basketball “Dream Team.”  Coach Daley passed away this last week on May 10.

I had the opportunity to spend some time with Coach Daley not too long ago and he really opened my eyes to some realities of leadership and the role of a coach.  Ever since that experience, I have considered him to be a mentor.  Don’t miss his insights this week.  Just go to the link above.

Have a great week as you use the Morning Huddle Action Thoughts below this week with your team to reach the Top.

Morning Huddle Action Thoughts

May 18
Thought:  My idea of an agreeable person is one who agrees with me.  Disraeli

Action:  Make a resolve that you will always be an agreeable person by never disagreeing with a patient or dental team member about anything that really doesn’t matter.  If you feel you must disagree on an important matter, be sure you first demonstrate to the person involved that you fully understand his/her viewpoint.

May 19
Thought:  The loss of taste for music and poetry is a loss of happiness.  Charles Darwin.

Action:  Read some poetry and listen to some music at least once a week.  This will add variety to life and will keep some parts of your brain from becoming atrophied through non-use.

May 20
Thought:  The best patients are the best resource for more of the same.  Steve Anderson

Action:  Have the dental team members nominate the 20 best patients in order of popularity.  Make a project of asking each of the 20 to give you the name of someone just like themselves who may want to find a happy dental home.

May 21
Thought:  The greatest and noblest pleasure which men have in the world is to discover new truth, and next to shake off old prejudices.  Frederick the Great.

Action:  Review procedures and things done because you have always done them that way.  See if they deserve to be continued.  Consider that the old traditional ways are not always best.  Neither are the new ways necessarily better than the old.

May 22
Thought:  The true spirit of conversation consists of building on another man’s observation, not overturning it.  Bulwer-Lytton

Action:  Listen attentively to patients, friends, family members, etc. so you can select things with which you agree, and then be both a constructive and an agreeable person.
